my dream ur-q

If I could really go off and build a car to play with and drive, and still
be somewhat realistic, I think this is what I would do:

I'd start with a '83 ur-q, because of cost and availability. The main
feature here is that the body has to be pretty straight, no rust or
accidents. This wouldn't be too expensive, say $5k or so (without a
necessarily strong or low mileasge engine or a service history).

I'd have it painted. What color? Hmm... That's a good question. I
think it would either be black, or dark metallic green, or charcoal grey,
or metallic blue. (I can't decide, but I'd have it painted nice)

I'd upgrade the interior with parts from an '85+ C-GT and/or 4k, so I'd
have the newer dashboard. This could potentially be very cheap to do.
Except for the front seats, those would be expensive. Probably some nice
Recaro's, I can't think of anything less trendy at the moment, tho' I'd
try in real life.

As for the motor, I'd look for a wrecked '91 200 for the 20 valve turbo,
with the stage 1 chip/WG spring. I'd shoehorn that in, along with any
euro 20v ur-q parts I could scrounge up.

I'd put a nice set of euro H1/H4 headlights in it. Later model, sloped
style. Renew all the rubber seals, bushings and other maintenance items.
Bolt on a nice set of 17"'s (same dilemna as the paint color question, but
they'd be German wheels, possibly tuner wheels).

As for a bit less realistic: I'd have the motor built, with one of
those sport q heads I heard about, a VATN turbo (are these available?),
flowed top end, cams, intercooler. Replace the whole ignition/injection
system with custom EFI(?). Big Red Porsche brakes. 3" stainless
turbo-back exhaust through 2 or 3 Borla's. A set of euro tinted
taillights/center decor panel would grace the rear. For a stereo, I'd
have surround sound DSP, eh, about 9 speakers in the interior (mids and
highs front and rear, center channel), and a subwoofer w/two 12"'s
clamshell mounted (one out of phase w/the other).

OK, I guess I'm done dreaming. I can't think of anything else right now.
Total cost? I dunno, does it matter? My dreams don't include the
checkout line...

Later,

Ken
