Don,

There is an alternative to the dealer for this item.  It requires some
fitting, and costs about $160 new.  Many of the vendors in EC carry
them, such as Wolfsport, GPR, and others.

There was at least one person on the list that successfully replaced the
cable itself.  Check the archives if they're working.  I don't remember
who it was.
