Some good comes from some bad
Haudi,
Yesterday my dad (in town to see the new grandbaby) and I drove about
600 miles RT to fetch our spiffy new MC-code '89 200q.
It's pearl (not my first choice, but it'll do) with pearl 15" baskets
and studded snow tires (?).
Details:
101k miles
two-owner (I'm #3)
clutch died on #2. _Tried_ to drive 800 miles (on interstate) home.
Clutch replaced. Drove about 500 more miles. Tranny is noted to be dead
(mis-shifting idiot) from the no-clutch adventure. Clutch, rear diff,
and transaxle replaced with "low-mile" used unit. During repairs car was
traded on '94 100q.
Good:
Decent physical shape. One tiny dent on the driver's front fender/wing;
just like my 4kq. So I get to look at it _twice_ each time I use the
car. Little knicks and scratches hither and thither.
"Good" stereo (Panasonic CD) and speakers (get off me. I have Infinitys
in the house; it's a car ferkrissake) so I don't have to spend any money
there
Climate control works as-new (touch wood!)
Boost of 1.3 on digi-gage :-)
An odd whistle at higher RPMs :-)
Ancillarys all work (cruise, wipers, rear def, etc)
Bad:
No hyd stuff has been replaced; bomb is presently dead
Driver's seat foam is ill. Leather needs restitching. Bolster is fine.
Neither seat heat works
Windows work but are slow. Can clean/lube extend regulator life?
Front struts are _dead_. Rear struts are merely dead.
Questions:
Source for bomb?
225-50-16 is the 16" of choice? SP8000 of course. ET45 like what's on
there now?
Bentley comes from Amazon for best price?
High idle at 1800-2000?
All '89 200q owners--particulary the "early" K26 folks--are requested to
flood my mailbox with suggested maintenance items, parts suppliers, etc.
Scott(s): Once the car is "up to snuff" (tires, struts, bomb, etc) I'll
be looking for you for some whistle-related issues. :-)
