RE: 4kqs Exhaust

Yes there is a difference between 2 1/2" and 2 1/4". Go 2 1/2". For the
muffler make sure you get a well baffled rear muffler because it will be LOUD
with a very low restriction muffler. If you do not mind LOUD than it should
be fine. I used a Super Turbo muffler in the rear with no resonator and is
just about right.

There were a few messages on list recently about exhaust and I wanted some
clarification......

Blaufergnugen! sells a sport exhaust (2.5", cat back with resonator and
muffler) for approx. $399. Their OEM type (2"?) goes for about $299.
Following the suggestions on the list, I found the best muffler shop in town
(according to the local Audi guru) and priced a similar system as the Blau
setup. The cost was in line with what others on the list found - $175-200
depending on muffler type and pipe diameter; which brings me to my
question(s):

1) How much back-pressure is needed from the exhaust system, i.e.,
can/should I go with a zero-restriction muffler?
2) Any significant performance difference between 2.25" and 2.5" pipe?
3) Is the resonator needed other than for acoustics? (My 4kqs currently does
not have a resonator so I'm used to the growl)

Overall - any suggestions on the best overall exhaust system (esp. pipe
dia., muffler type)? Thanks!
