Not really, because more often than not, the SUV ends up on top of the
car, crushing it.
Volvo discovered this was one of the leading causes of deaths in truck vs.
car accidents; the car would literally be "sucked" underneath the trunk,
then the weight of the cab would crush the passenger compartment(not to
mention, having an 18 wheeler sleeper cab on top of a car makes
"extraction" of passengers in car rather, uh, precarious if not extremely
dangerous...
Volvo fixed the problem by installing a very low, solid, high-stregth
steel bar bolted directly to the chassis that keeps cars from going under.
A cow catcher, if you will.
SUV's need the same thing...
