Re: Drip rail problems
Thanks to everyone who responded to my driprail problem post. When all
was said and done,I had found that the fine people at Audi had indeed
changed the drip
rail moulding to black, so you would have to change both sides to make
them
match ( at about $100 bucks a side ) and then they wouldn't match the
chrome
around the rest of the area. I did find a chrome strip at Don Magill Audi
in Houston,
thanks to Linda at Carlsen, but they weren't sure the black plastic
pieces
would work since the part #'s on those have also been superceeded.
So I tried something everyone has told me could not be done with this
particular
project, and that's take one off a parts car without destroying it. If
your'e very
careful you can do it as long as the weather is good and hot and lets the
adhesive
come loose after you have drilled out the pop rivets. I used my Bentley
for
reference when removing it. I installed the moulding on my car using a
good
grade of double sided trim tape from an auto body supply house and the
using
some small stainless steel sheet metal screws as well. A rubber mallet
helps to
tap the moulding into the clips at the rear. It looks almost perfect
sitting still and I
guarantee no one will notice it's a used part at 70 mph. Final cost since
I removed the
piece from one of my parts cars was less than $15 bucks.
