Dealer Tid-bits

NEWS,

Yes there are later better EMCs for 1.8 A4s. But they don't nessecarily
do away with the sluggish at first auto trans performance. The whole idea
behind the warm up of the auto trans A4s is to light up the cats sooner.
The shift pattern seems wrong. Performance seems wrong but it should be
over with in 2-3 mins. Once the cats are working off you go. Some cars were
worse than others.

There are later and better TCMs also. Some seem to upshift too late. And
remember you can sort of "reset" the shift points by turning on the key,
flooring the throttle and waiting for 10-15 secs at WOT with the key on,
but engine NOT RUNNING. Now start up and drive off. You've then
cancelled whatever the tranny thought it learned of your driving habits.

Some cars that kick out certain 1551 codes are getting NGK plugs.

Got a 30v 2.8 with auto trans in an A4 or A6? Notice the poor throttle
response in reverse? That is intentional. The throttle response is killed
by retarding the timing a TON in reverse. Do I have to tell you why? Can
you say unintended accelaration? They are supposed to feel that way.

Soon dealers will be able to program all upgrades into the latest ECMs.
A tool to supercede the 1551 will let dealers burn ECMs on site from CDs
with the latest software.

I'll pass on these things as they come in.
