RE: Lightening 5KTQ flywheel
I have a lightened FW on the ur-q. You notice more engine pulsing at idle and also more body shake, though a lot of the body shake is due to the big cam. (I kindah likes it) You also notice faster acceleration of the engine and faster RPM increase. The downside is that you have less inertia if you need it to help cover any loss of low-end torque and this could hurt initial launch performance, but only if you really need the extra inertia to overcome lack of low-end. This is _not a prollum_ with the K24 and 2-piece EM and open exhaust. The FW was lightened by removal of material from the rear of the FW and was re-balanced.

I know one person who lightened the flywheel on his 5ktq and was very
pleased. Although I wouldn't call the mod "common" it is certainly
feasible. I spoke at length to someone from Anderson Bros. at a QClub event
last summer. They were doing it for people and were actually trying to set
up a system where they always had a few extra so all you had to do was give
them the cash and your flywheel and you would get a lightened one within a
few days rather than wait for them to actually machine it.
