You have antilock brakes.  The light should come on briefly (like for a
second or two) when the car starts up and should turn right back off. 
If it stays on for more than a few seconds there might be something
wrong.

I hate it as well, the tranny never goes off Sport mode!  Non-sport mode
is just rediculous.  Who would think of trying to propell a car this
heavy up a hill at 30mph in 3rd gear?  1300rpm?!  ugh.
