When I gutted the cat in my first 914, almost every 
smog place that I visited kicked/tapped on the cat during
the visual.  The fact that the cat on the 914 is visible/kickable 
from the rear valance didn't help.  Maybe they don't check
as often on newer cars or if it required lifting the car to 
get to the cat...
