STPR '98 Rally entry list
Hello fans,
The STPR rally is the 5th round of the SCCA United Sates Rally
championship, North American Rally cup and North East divisional
rally championship. The event takes place over the fast smooth gravel roads of
north central Pennsylvania.
National classes are as follows:
Open: 4WD Turbo cars with unlimited modifications, Engine block must
be manufactured by the same company, Primary structure (doors, roof,
a,b,c pillars) must remain original. Suspension, turbos, gearbox,
diff's, brakes and interior are free.
Group 5: Same as open class but limited to 2wd cars with total
adjusted displacements over 2.3 liters.
Group 2: Same as open class but limited to normally aspirated 2wd
cars with total adjusted displacements under 2.3 liters.
Production GT: Turbo 2 or 4wd cars with limited modifications
(basically the same as the FIA Group N cars).
Production: Normally aspirated 2wd cars. The only modifications
allowed are those wich improve the safety of the cars and not the
performance. Bolt on parts such as shocks, srings, cat-back exhausts
are allowed. No engine modifications, internal or exernal.

This is probably the most competitive field we have seen for years.
This is also the first time in six years that someone other than
Paul Choinere is dominating the championship. The current points
leader is the Jamaican team of David Summerbell and Michael Fennell
in the Lancer EvoIV. Second Is Choinere with Carl Merril and his
480hp Escort WRC close behind. Frank Sprongl is probably the best
North America has to offer. He concentrates mainly on the Canadien
Championship but when he shows at the American events, he makes
life misserable for the rest of the top runners.
