I never had to pay extra with AAA for flatbed service. I simply insisted
upon it to the operator. If a regular truck had shown up I wouldn't have
let him tow. Call it paranoia, but I'd prefer not to try to get the towing
service to pay for damages.
I recall a trip to DC where I forced my friend to park on the street while
i took his parking space just because of the slight chance that we wouldn't
wake up (with hangovers) from our night of partying in time to move the
car. I too have heard the horror stories. Latest one was a friend who left
his jeep in 4wd overnight only to discover it towed the next morning. They
didn't bother to disengage the 4wd. They also really screwed up the tranny.
He never got them to pay a dime.
