I Just went through this process this weekend. The low
pressure switch connects to the compressor through one
of the so-called Kostal connectors. On my 86 5kcstq, it's
connector 6. If you remove the male plug, among other wires,
you'll see a heavy-guage green wire, and another heavy
guage green with yellow stripe.
With the car running, A/C set to AUTO and LOwest temp,
if you short across the two terminals where these wires
terminate, the compressor should engage. If it does,
then you have a leak and insufficient freon to allow
the system to function. If the compressor does not engage,
then you have at least a bad compressor clutch.
