Subject: RE: Wanted: oil pan upgrade for I5???
Several people have posted about using the '91 200q oil pan as an upgrade; and
have commented on the internal baffling being inadequate under prolonged hard
cornering (track use, etc.). Reading through Audi documentation on the S4, it
states that the S4 has improved baffling, and also a new oil pump pickup. So,
if you try using the S4 pan, I'd guess it's deeper and requires a mod to the
oil pump as well. I recall the deeper pan may cause clearance problems, as
well (measure before purchase).
As I recall, the last M3 had similar problems with poor baffling in the stock
oil pan; as I recall, European Car mentioned a fairly simple mod (adding
additional baffling) that worked pretty well and wasn't too expensive. Seems
like baffling is generic; this could be a source for a good design.
