questions about 4kcsq water pump adjustment

Okay here is a question for all of you.  We did the timing belt/ water pump
/ tentioner, and the belt was put on too tight. I was told that the belt
would stretch and the noise would go away. It has been 5k miles and the
noise is not gone. Sould I attempt to loosen the water pump and adjust it so
that it does not squeel? Or sould I just wait, or sould I do the whole thing
over now?
