Re: Hydroplaning
On the Hydroplaning subject, Being a fairly new URQ owner (early feb 98)
which came with 4 x shot tyres, I replaced the fronts with 205-50-15 Pireli
p700's, which I thought were great !!! & cost £180.00 ukp. The car stuck
like sh*t untill all 4 wheels would break into 4 wheel slide, No problem
with this as it felt within control. These fronts have now covered about
8,000 miles & are still in good nick.
I have more recently replaced the rears with Yokohama A510's again
205-50-15's at a cost of £120.00 ukp. At first I was not too impressed with
these as the back end now feels to roll a little, which I hadn't noticed
before. But no more rear end slide !!!.
Having now done about 1000 miles on the rears and getting used to the feel
of them I had a hairy experience today, at about 60mph.
I hit a roundabout at the said speed, this shouldn't be any problem at all,
Light rain had just started. The front end just slid and the rear end kept
on pushing. I didn't like it.
Current thinking is swap Yokahama's onto front & put the lack of wet grip
onto the back, Any thoughts ?.
