Alex didn't try to sell directly to the list. Private email between him and
Ken Keith was posted by Ken on April 15th because Ken though this would be
of interest to others. I for one appreciated it very much. 

The two posts (I am aware of) that Alex posted to the list on this matter
were in direct response to your questions.
