Subject: help- car won't start after new air filter

I know how lame this seems, but after carefully installing a new air filter
on a '89 90Q 5cyl the car won't start. I checked everything carefully and
it is put back correctly. Any suggestions would be great as I am without a
ride now until I can figure this out.

That's pretty much how most of the posts start out, HELP!
My guess is that you may have broken the ground on the rear of the intake
manifold (on the 4000q, it's a brown wire on a small stud if I recall
correctly. Very easy to damage while muscling the air filter cover off. I
think this is the ECU ground, so it affects about everything when it's bad.
It may also be that the wire has broken internally near it's mount on the
manifold.
Another thing to check is the fuses. The computer uses several (3?),
including some along the front that look like spares. They are not.
