Re: q center driveshaft
Supposedly there is a repair facility somewhere in the Chicago area that will
do this work. I'm still waiting for the name so I can send the drive shaft
from my '92 S4. The center bearing went south and I had it replaced before
the summer club driving schools.
I was unsuccessful at finding replacement bearings, or anyone that had BTDT on
this part. If you can get the bearing I'd advise looking long and hard for
someone to repair it. It will be worth your efforts!!!!
If you have to buy the entire driveshaft from Audi its $1200+ before you try
to talk discounted price with your supplier. Then you get the joy of
installation fees, taxes, and the like. A most unsatisfactory solution,
particularly since we can get the entire Quattro drive train option added to
the car for a reduced price of ~$16xx.
As you can probably tell, I'm not real pleased with Audi's extortion on this
part - or on their A/C compressors for the '92 S-4. $1300+ from Audi's
official parts supply, $630 from Shokan. The only differences that I can find
so far:
* Shokan's comes in their box, not a nicely decorated Audi version
* six months warranty vs. twelve months from Audi
* the new one works!
Similarities:
* same manufacturer
* same Audi part number
* same fitments
Anyone that can explain this price difference - have at it!
I've seen lot's of discussions about poor performance from Shokan, and this is
the first time I've tried them. My experience - use them!!!! Specifics:
* friendly, and knowledgeable staff
* order shipped same day and received within two days (New York to Ohio)
* less than 50% of Audi price.
I'm very pleased!
No ties to Shokan, just a satisfied customer.
