The Boge ProGas for the CQ from Blau are $60, probably worth it. Bilsteins
are $90 from RD for the stiffer ones, softer ones are $10-20 cheaper. If
you do mail order for your parts, you can probably approach $40 (+/- $20)
per shock.
The worst problems with those cheap shocks is that they don't last. And,
BTW, Boge is stock on most Audis, some also use Bilsteins. I've never
heard of damaged strut mounts from shocks... Potholes, maybe.
