Poor Idle Update
Along the lines of the one post, he wishes people would let
others know what they found after receiving advice.
Well, my 93 90SV6(fwd) had idle problems when warm,
sometimes the idle would just go down to zero and die.
Yesterday was a cooker here in the Twin Cities, so when
I got home I started looking for an ISV. Well , the nearest
thing I could find was a plastic dohicky just behind
the air filter box. No way I was going to try cleaning that
with carb cleaner. So I just started removing connectors and
cleaning the contacts and applying dielectric grease (didn't
have any Stabilant yet). Some of the connectors I tried pulling
while the engine was idling, not much of a change, although
I did manage to get the check engine light to come on with
one connector (it's a black valve/regulator on the right rear
top side of the engine, just in front of the air tube running to
the throttle body). Luckily, all I had to do was shut down the
engine and restart it with the connector on, and the light shut
off.
Well, after fixing/cleaning about 5 or 7 connectors around the
air cleaner box, and with the A/C on, the idle dipped down
once. After that I didn't seem to have any problems. I even
drove it a couple miles at low speeds (<35mph) and then came
home and let it sit idling with everything that could draw
power turned on just to see if it would die (A/C, lights, fogs,
rear defrost, seat heaters, emerg flashers, radio). So far it
seems to be behaving, today is cool and raining, so I don't
think I'll have much chance to test it today. If it acts up
again, I'll let everyone know the how and why.
Thanks for listening and the help.
BTW, I still need to clean my battery terminals/posts, that
should probably help some too.
