RE:1989 Audi 90Q Idle hunting2 retrying
Trying again. I did try and post this, but somehow it did'nt get on the
list or if it did, I did'nt receive the digest. Apologies if it did and
this has now become irrelevant. The e-mail servers and network services
are un-reliable here. After all it is the federal .gov

I still have a slight problem with my 1989 Audi 90 Q. I cleaned out the
idle
stabilizer as was suggested, only now it will not idle when the engine
is cold, and if I
turn the air conditioner on, it will drag the revs down to about 500 --
600 RPM,
instead of the revs going up to compensate for the additional load of
the air
conditioner. Since an idle stabilizer cost so much, I hate rush in and
replace it
without being sure it is bad.

I think you have my car. Happens exactly on my 1988 80q.
I finally decided to pull the codes. I got the following:
2121 - Problem: Idle switch. Repair: Check idle switch and wiring
2123 - Problem: Full throttle switch stuck closed or problem in wiring
to switch. Repair: Check full throttle switch and wiring.
(Bentley)
I'm wondering if you'd get the same codes?
There are about 2 pages in Bentley that describe how to fix the problem.
I can fax or mail you a copy if you so wish. As yet I have'nt gotten
around to _actually_ fixing the problem (just laziness). As has been
suggested recently, it could also be a bad OXS. Again, I have'nt
_actually_ gotten around to do something about this.
I'm afraid I can't say that I've tried any fixes yet but I plan on
getting around to them...soon I hope.

A friend has suggested that may be the brain box (electronic control
Module
(ECM)) thinks there is a short in the system and I need to disconnect
the ECM
and reconnect it. Does this make sense?? if it does, were is the ECM
located on
this model??

Right front kick panel by the glove box. You'd have to take out the
glove box. There should be a panel you snap open and the ecm should be
there (seen it done).
