Note, this is for US market cars only.

My mother drives a 96 A6q, it's been almost entirely trouble free. Two
problems presented themselves, a leaking gasket in the engine (resulting in
a oil-burning smell) and a rear child door lock that decided to arm itself
and refuse to disengage.

Both items were covered at scheduled maintainance intervals. Note however,
that she has only 35K (or so) on the car. Workng for the dealer, I rarely
see A6q's/100q's in for any length of time or repeat visits. I know,
somewhat dodgy qualifier, but I pay attention to what's in the service bay.

. Audi went to a 200hp, 5valve per
cylinder head as of 1998. Note, the virtually identical 2.8 V6 in the 1998
A4 puts out 190 hp.

New for 1998.

You will find that the Quattro cars command a premium of around 3,000+ over
a identical front drive A6. I've seen the market difference even greater in
an A4. Shop around, I don't think it's difficult to get a used A6q. Finding
a used A4 can be much more troublesome.

Good luck.
