An Enlightened Knob
Shifter knob that is. Not to be the only 87 5kq Audi nummer
driving along the highways and byways without one, I decided to
make a home-made version, since I needed a shifter knob boot
anyway. The hardest part was getting the plastic cap off. Went
off to RS and purchased six 12V LED's with the resistor built in
(276-209). Made a template from the plastic cap. Drilled some
1/4 in. holes in the knob to fit the LED's and made a cut out
between the holes for the wires. Drilled a longer 1/8 in. hole
from the bottom of the knob on an angle to run the wires,
assembled everything in series, ran the two wires out through the
knob at the bottom. Loosened off the shifter boot, connected a
wire to the positive side of the ashtray light wire (soldered of
course), made a little hole in the front of the shifter boot up
high for the wires, screwed on the knob, ran the wires through
the hole to join the wires, turned on the lights...OMG! Soldered
all remaining wires, stuck her all back together.
Only problem with this mod is you tend to be looking down too
much while driving. Ah well, I suppose I'll get over it. Oh
sh**, I forgot, I gotta go out and cut the lawn before it gets
dark.
