Sunday's Fun
Well I woke up on Sunday and decided how I wanted to spend Father's day.
Tinkering with the Audi.
Ok so maybe I'm a little weird. I stared by removing the "old"
tri-electrode plugs. The anode (the thingy in the center)
was starting to look more like a triangle than a circle (aprox 20K).
Other than that they were nice and clean, no bad
for a engine with 186K. Being Sunday the parts store was closed. So I
installed my spare slightly used platinum
plugs (20K). I always keep the old set in my emergency repair kit, just
cuz ya never know. Next was to mess with the ISV.
I removed it and cleaned it out with WD-40. All that black stuff just
washed away. Good news the car started and ran after
all this. The idle is a little lower now 800-1000 RPM's. I listened then
looked around for vacuum leaks in the general area.
Lots of potential problems. What is the best solution? New tubing? If so
how much? Or will RTV strategically placed work ?
Then it was onto the OX sensor, mmmm. I wasted about ½ hour trying to find
an easy way to get at it. It looks like I might be
able to get at it with the RF wheel removed. Has anyone had any luck doing
this? I gave up, the wheel was stuck on the hub.
This normally is not a problem generally a block of wood and a hammer solve
this problem. However yesterday all
I succeeded in doing was making a hole in the driveway with the jack.
Oops! Then it was time to pick up my tools, wash and wax the car. A clean
car is a happy car. The driveway was getting a little too warm to crawl
around on anyhow. Hopefully I don't get a flat on that wheel. Oh yeah
that's what I have AAA for.
