oil additives / synthetics

The latest edition of Turbo magazine did a comparo test of (unknown) oil
vs. 'Royal Purple' synthetic motor oil. They tested a 88 honda CRX 1.6l
engine; and a Toyota 22RE powered pickup..

<laugh - the articles name is 'can OIL make POWER?'>

Doesn't state a baseline for the honda; they only mentioned they observed a
1.1hp increase...AT the wheels!

For the toyota, baseline was 95.7hp, purple power yielded 97.6hp. (!)

The royal purple comes in standard 10-30 type oils, and 'racing 21' or
'racing 11' style oils, with viscosity ranges like 0w10, 5w30, 10w40..

Royal Purple also advertises in Turbo, and I don't know if Turbo is the
mose virtuous company out there..:)

That aside, it shows that (duh) the oil you put in affects the power at the
wheels. I'm kind of skeptical, because they didn't tell us what oil was in
there originally (50-80?!) and what condition it was in. But, you can get
some benefits from the proper oil.

Well, there's some info for you, some of it fairly unenlightening.
