Hopping up an 20VT
Hi all,
I don't own an Audi but a net-impaired friend of mine does. He currently
owns 3 CQ (2 10VT, 1 20V), and a 5000 CQTW.
Anways, he obtained the complete drivetrain from an S4 and is in the midst
of transplanting it into one of his 10V CQ. He's bought a hybird Garrett
turbo and he has a more efficient intercooler than stock.
What can he do to up the boost with the stock computer? What are the dangers
of bypassing the factory boost regulator? From what I gather, the factory
computer has the boost peak at ~2000 RPM and slowly backs it off as the revs
rise. Why is this done? Is it to keep the turbo at a relatively efficient
part of the map and/or keep it from overspeeding?
My thought is that with the more efficient Garret and a better intercooler,
he should be able to run a fixed amount of boost across the rev range by
installing a conventional boost regulator. Any thoughts?
Are there any sights that deal with what are some of the common mods for
upping turbo performance, without buying a new chip?
Thanks for any help.
