Hand Brake Cable Replacement Questions

It appears that they have to be unhooked from the
adjustment hook, then pulled out backwards toward each wheel.
Anyone
done this before? Is there another way to do it?

Just had it done a week ago, for the 2nd time on this car
already.
Unhook them from the callipers first. Pull to the front 10-15cm
to get some slack. Unhook from the front adjustment piece. Pull
out backwards through the wheel sides. Do them one at a time.

The hardest part appears to be the need to remove the drive shaft
in
order to have access to the adjustment nut that tightens the
cables.

Don't do it. The nut is easily adjustable from the back with a
long 0.25" rachet/extension/deep 10mm socket.

If one is
careful, it looks like it might be possible to disconnect the
drive
shaft from the rear differential and carefully flex it (as little
as
possible) and tie it so there is access to the adjuster.

You'll be risking remounting the shaft with eccentricity. The car
might turn into an eggbeater.
