Subject: 5KS Clunking on Turns-Help

I looked under the car and the L inner CV boot was
cracked so I replaced the entire axle with a used unit (car has 190K
miles). But I still have the clunking noise and it's driving me crazy.
Is it the balljoint? In the past 1.5 yrs I have replaced the tie rods,
rack and front bearing and L hub. Is the clunking Bushing related or
balljoint-both never replaced. If the balljoint, do I have to do the whole
arm or replace just the bjoint. Suppliers? TIA

Rich: could be a couple things. Put car up on lift, and push/pull suspension
pieces to see if you get movement where you shouldn't. Check that the
subframe bolts are tight (with car resting on wheels). Could be that the
steering play needs adjustment: there's a small bolt on top that takes out
excessive play (it makes a clunk/pop noise at low speed full lock turns).
Turn the bolt slightly until slack is taken up, then loosen enough to allow
self-centering of the steering wheel. See my web site for the proc (also in
bentley).
