RE: 83' URQ Dash Removal
I put the newer style dash in my 84' 4kq. It really isn't that hard but
make sure you don't forget the two nuts that are inside the engine
compartment, well, under the hood at least. On on each side behind where
the newer style fuse boxes are and the same spot on other side. 10mm nuts
if memeory serves. THen there are more inside car but thouse are obvious
once Glove box and steering under dash pod are out. I think there is one
more up behind the center vent but cant remember. Might be behind Center
console.
Dash is tight fit and sticks to firewall and heater core area.
Take your time and pull slowly and evenly. I tried to pry it out and
ended up putting a small crack in windshield which I planned on replacing
anyways.
Newer style dash looks great but all the switches need wiring
changes which is a PITA. Just now finished everything but still have the
old gauges. Tried the new ones but the wiring is different and the lights
light up wrong. It isn';t worth my tire to try to put the new gauges in.
Anyhow, have fun and enjoy. Too bad ABT doesnt' mkae a pod for
the newer dashes. NOw I have to make my own. Any ideas anyone.
