RE: octane headache
The best (IMFO) civilian octane booster is the 104+ Super brand. Highly recommended by several race engine builders I have worked with over the years. Cheap at Wally'sMart. One bottle per tank of 103/104 octane super pump gas cures the detonation problems with the KUQEFH that I have been fighting for over a year. The counter people look at you a bit strangely when you buy 8-10 bottles at a time.....

Ok, I've been looking at the Gasoline FAQ. Totally confusing, I think.
Well, I feel confused, so therefore...
On one bottle of 'octane booster' at the auto parts store, it contained
methyl spirits only; another of the same contained kerosene... Perhaps
there was one with Methanol, but I'm not sure.
Do these work really? The Racing Fuel (not approved for road use) at the
gas station is 108 octane, and $3.50 a gallon (!). So, the way I see it,
it'd be cheaper to get some 91 and bump up the AKI with something. But if
simple methyl spirits or kerosene works, why pay the big$ for the small can
at the auto parts store? I can get larger quanities cheaper elsewhere..
Whaddya think? Kerosene? Methanol (would 'hardware store' grade work? or
would it need to be anhydrous?)? Methyl spirits? Tolulene?
