FS: '91 200TQW front struts, brakes.
I have for sale a complete UFO setup in excellent condition from my '91
200TQW. I came across a reasonably priced '92 S4 setup, and committed to
it, at about the time I'd decided that I could spend my money elsewhere.
The old system worked great, no warping at all. Now the car works fine
(after I had it aligned--ask Arun how it drove after swapping struts and
brakes before aligning! Sarge, you might've been right about the
difference in brake feel, and your preference on that score for the UFOs.
But my suspicion is that much of the difference is attributable to the type
of pad used. The factory girlings might feel more like the UFOs.)
What started as a very reasonable price for the S4 parts turned out to be a
lot more after new rotors, bearings, pads, etc. But it's done, and it
works fine. (I am a bit mystified as to why they stuck with 276mm rotors
on both S4s and S6s when they moved to 288mm rotors on the regular 100
series in '92. Perhaps a tradeoff on caliper size and capability?)
I bought this car about 7 weeks ago, and immediately replaced the front
left bearing, so one of the struts for sale has a new bearing. The car had
88k on it when I bought it and had clearly been well maintained. The
rotors were replaced once at 40-something k. The UFOs have no heat marks
that I can discern and, as I said, they worked fine and are not warped.
It's against my religion, but I paid a reputable Audi repair shop in
Berkeley (known these guys for years) to make the swap. They can verify my
claims and I have receipts. The strut cartridges worked fine and it comes
with all the hardware, shielding, etc. Even the strut boots are in good
shape.
I'm asking $400. plus shipping for everything. There's somebody with a
repair shop in the Valley who will likely buy the stuff, but I figured I
should give first shot to listers who may have a more immediate need. I'm
just trying to recoup some of the cost of the swap, and I suppose my avant
would appreciate having its former suspension removed from the back.
By the way, I weighed one of the UFO rotors and it came in at 19lbs. I
think the UFO calipers are a bit lighter than the G60s--they might've used
some kind of alloy in the UFOs, because they're unusually light for
calipers of that size. I should've weighed the zimmermans that replaced
the UFOs, but they're easier to come by. I'll just haul a bathroom scale
into B-H Porsche-Audi next time I'm there.
If anyone is interested in the struts and brakes, please email me privately.
