Yep, you are right. The drivetrain (i.e. engine, tranny, locking diffs,
etc.) is the same as the 4kq, but the rear suspension is a bit different.
That is why I couldn't just get a 4kq subframe to replace the one that NTB
butchered on my car. Also, that is why Quantum Syncro owners can't modify
the suspension much... there isn't much readily available (except for the
front suspension... which is pretty much identical to the 4kq... other than
the 4x100 hubs...).

The term Syncro, as used for the Quantum models (which was only in the
wagon/avant versions...), was the Audi quattro system. When the term was
used anywhere else in the VW line-up, it referred to their viscous coupling
version. The Quantum Syncro could be considered more an Audi than a VW.
