Special project car

Hi Y'all,

A very good friend (and former boy racer :-) ) is planning to construct a
car from his own design.  Purchased running gear, his own engine, etc.  He
plans to build his own fiberglass body.  He is interested in using a
complete set of quattro running gear coupled with a different engine.
Obviously there will be problems with mating engine to tranny but what can
he expect to have to pay for a good drive train (less engine)?  

Any ready source for the parts?  (Preferably not too terribly far from
southern WV.)

He seems to be fairly well aware of at least some of the gotchas but do you
have words of sensibility for him?  :-)  Or encouragement?
