I don't think Stan stands much chance of a 'newer' engine than a 1985
North American car would have in it. The engine microfiche were issued
in October 1987, so they don't explicitly cover the period during which
these special Swiss cars were made. The spares fiche are from 1992, and
document two engine variants for Switzerland. One is the GV engine -
working from both fiche, it's a low-emissions variant of the WR but
without catalytic converters. 1982 onwards ...

The other engine is a 'WX (CH)'. It's mentioned several times in the
parts microfiche (CO point measuring differences, air conditioning
pipework, etc.) but not in the engine microfiche. The MB engine was a
straight no-no, and the 20V wasn't ready until late 1989. So any 1988
Swiss car is almost certain to have a standard North American WX
engine. It's just the only engine Audi had that would meet Swiss
emission standards. Worthy of note: the 20V engine documentation
states the reason for its development was to reduce emissions.

The non-metric gauges might be an issue. All of the individual gauges
fitted to the S704 dashboard are unique to the vehicle. I suspect this
is because the 85JA chassis has no speedometer cable - the analogue
instruments are probably electronic. There are probably no non-metric
versions.

As well as the engine code letters, it would be nice to know what's on
the white sticker in the roof of the boot. That would tell us
unequivocally whether these are Torsen cars, and thus a true 85JA
chassis, or an 85HA chassis masquerading as something else.

(Interestingly, there seems to have been a Switzerland-only version of
 the Sport ...)
