Are you sure your '85 Golf was galvanized? I had an '85 GTI (made/assembled in PA) that certainly was not. when I sold it in '93 it had a fair amount of rust. My '87 5KCST doesn't have a spot of rust.

I heard this, too, and found it wierd. My '85 VW Golf was galvanized,
as were all '85 VWs here. Strange that an $8500 Golf would be dipped,
but a $35000 5000Q wouldn't be....
