RE: '91 200q low oil pressure indicator...

Yeah, it must be the season for this particular malady. Mine started
beeping at me a couple of days ago. The gage pressure looks fine, the
oil level is where it is supposed to be, but the little dripping oil can
comes on every now and then (and then mysteriously goes away). The
first time it happened to me, my heart went into my mouth, but I've
learned to trust the gage and ignore the auto-check. I think it must be
a loose connection up in the instrument cluster that periodically comes
and goes. When I pull it to fix a bunch of burned out lights, I'll
check the grounds and other connections. So my advice is "trust but
verify" whenever you see an alarm.

A couple of months ago, I pulled out of the driveway only to have the
auto-check alarm indicate an overheating condition. That's kind of
weird, I thought, since I just started the car a couple of minutes ago.
Oh well, must be the usual Audi weirdness...but I pulled over to check
just in case. I found that the neck had snapped off of my radiator, and
my coolant was rapidly disappearing. The gage would never have spotted
that, but the auto-check level sensor did.

So...investigate whenever it goes off, but use all the info you have to
make a judgement (like your gages).
