Unintended acceleration
There's a new media-criticism magazine called Brill's Content that came
out last month. In a section called Lynched: Autopsy of a Press Victim
in there's a long article called Lurching Into Reverse about the 1986
CBS coverage of the Audi unintended acceleration issue. It shows how
CBS rigged a 5000 to get footage of it lurching forward from a parked
position and how slanted the reporting was. I didn't realize that Audi
had sold 74,000 cars in the US before that incident--it took them till
last year to get back over 30,000.
