Way back when...sometime in the early '80s...My dad was told the same thing
by a mechanic at the dealership when the odo stopped working on my mom's
'81 Coupe.


BTW, a friend has had the odometers from his '87 4KQ and '92 S4 repaired at
the VDO facility in WV for under $70 each.  It's about an hour to an
hour-and-a-half drive from D.C.  You do all the instrument cluster removal
and install.
