Inercooler cooling (sic)

The intercooler location on the S4 is the pits. Although there is an
inlet tract in the front spoiler, there is nowhere for the air departing
the intercooler to go. Certainly on the RHD models, the large washer
bottle fills the gap behind the IC. Following Ned's tip, I have a
rectangular hole in my plastic inner wing. Although this vastly improves
airflow, it does leave the rear of the IC open to road debris.
I am in the process of replacing my IC with a custom water-cooled
chargecooler which fits the existing mountings. The radiator will sit
below and inf front of the a/c rad at the front.
Although a long inlet tract will possibly hinder the throttle response,
it will also be responsible for increased torque figures (so I am led to
believe and is the main reason that my S4 is 402lb/ft vs a similarly
configured Sport)
There are a few aftermarket front bumper/spoiler packages on the market
that might allow the fitment of a large front-mounted IC. Check out the
Zender and ABT catalogs.
