RE: V8 UFO Brake Conversion
for something that supposedly stops better,
Not sure you will agree with that when you drive it with the s4 brakes. Lots
of real world experiences on this list to attest to that NOT being the case.
However a big red conversion would change that.
handles better because of reduced unsprung weight, and is cheaper to fix.
You are right there. They are lighter and I have heard reports that
suspension control is better without.
The conventional rotors are a quarter of the price of the UFOs. If the UFOs
were so great, why did Audi stop using them on later V8s?
They did not stop using them because of braking power that is for sure.
Reasons are numerous though, cost and in-continuity being the 2 largest
reasons.
I have seen a well driven v-8 with "warped" rotors on the track. What an awe
inspiring sight to see that big car come down from about 100-30 in a very
short distance. The rotors were not warped anymore. This did produce a good
flame show from all the brake dust built up in the rotor. The driver of the
car was a Porsche driver and got out of the v8 with a big smile on his face.
