UFOs, G60s, and the car behind you.

On the subject of UFOs versus G60s, etc., the comment about the relative
inferiority of UFOs AND G60s makes too sense to me. That is, if you compare
it to what's on an M3, M5, etc.

But here's something for us all to consider. If the application is street
use, my experience is that the biggest problem is with the guy/gal behind
me. A couple of weeks back, driving north on the 405 through LA (about
11pm, July 4), and traffic is squirrellier than usual. At one point, I have
to really pile on the brakes. They stopped fine (the G60s I'd just
installed), but I was more worried about the new mustang in my rearview
mirror. He DIDN't stop in time. Lucky for me, he had the good sense to aim
toward the left shoulder, and literally saved my ass. He ended up a foot or
two parallel with me, at a slight angle. No contact. Clearly, he was too
close, given that car's ability to stop. I'm a firm believer in giving lots
of distance to the car in front, not out of concern for my ability to stop,
but because the information that traffic has slowed or stopped takes awhile
to be transmitted down the line, and I want to make sure the doofus in my
rearview mirror has plenty of warning. Gotta give 'em time to get off the
cell phone, I suppose.
