Re: PLEASE HELP: 1995 A6Q 5spd & extended warrantees

I bought a 1995 Audi A6QW with 59,000 miles from Burnsville VW and they
offered a 2yr/24000 mile extended warranty through Western Diversified for
$995 ($50 deductible each repair). Originally, I declined, but my wife
thought it would be a good idea. Luckily, I listened to her. In the past
4 months of ownership, we've already recovered over $800 of the cost in
covered repairs. I figure in the next 20 months we'll easily need more
than $200 in repairs considering the high cost of Audi parts and labor
charges.

As with extended warranty companies, they're only good as long as they're
still in business. A 48 month warranty for $1400 isn't a bad deal if your
sure they'll still be around then. Your friend may want to ask them how
much a 24 month warranty would cost. This particular warranty from Western
Diversified covers all the standard mechanical, powertrain, etc. as well as
a lot of electrical components (even power window and sunroff switches,
etc.) including a cheap rental car when the car's in for covered repairs.

You should also make sure the dealership that you want working on the car
accepts the warranty without any hassle. In my case, Burnsville VW
(Minnepolis) and ParkPlace Motorcars (Audi - in Rochester -- where I live)
are both owned by the same Rudy Luther Organization so they're used to
handling all the paperwork.

With regard to getting a local Audi dealer to "certify" a used Audi and
attach the Audi 5 year/75000 mile extended warranty -- I was told that the
certifying dealer actually has to hold the title and "sell" the car to you.
I tried to get Rudy Luther Toyota to wholesale a Silver 1995 A6 QW to
ParkPlace Audi so they could attach the Audi Extended Warranty, but the
Toyota dealer wouldn't budge. Too bad for them....the car's still for sale
after 5 months...serves them right.

Hope this helps.
