Re: Door trim removal
Brian Paul Bressler decided to speak these words:
>how can I remove the door trim on an '85 4000 quattro?
Take off the bottom door pockets. Feel around carefully for all of the
screws, there is also a hidden one near the top of the pocket behind the
carpeting on where there is the middle connection to the door that
seperates the two sections of hte pockets. Then you take out the little
black thing behind the door handle, just one screw, no biggie. Then you
take off the grab handle, there are i think 2 screws deep inside of it,
you can see the holes on the bottom. The tricky part is getting the
connection for the power mirrors (if you are doing the driver's door)
off...but once you do that, you rotate the grab handle until you can pull
it out of the door...Then you take off the cover by the A-pillar that
looks like it backs the mirrors, just one screw i think. Then you undo
the screw thats there, take out the door lock pin that sticks up, and
gently pry the sides of hte panel away from the door, it has about three
or four snaps on each side that hold it in place...it will take a bit of
force to do correctly. Then if its a late 85 or newer 4kq, you have to
slide the panel about 2 inches foward as the rear of it is fit into a
small clip on the top of the door. Then you can just remove it. It
sounds more complicated than it is...takes about 10 minutes just cause of
all those screws.. Installation is reverse of removal...
good luck
later...
