Bucksnort request for brake repair data points

Two sets of questions, first for the 4KQ, then a 5KS.

Recently purchased a 1984 4KQ. Was advised that the brake master cylinder
needed to be rebuilt or replaced. Due to time constraints I bought a used
one. It was from a later model 4KQ, but I was told it would fit. It did, but
there is a leak through what I think is the proportioning valve. I asked
about repair/replacement from where I got it, but I've gotten no response
(which means I'll be getting parts elsewhere, obviously), so I'm asking the
list.
How hard are these to rebuild? Which one should I rebuild -- the 1984 or the
later model?
This car also needs a front caliper rebuilt. Are there any special
tricks/tools I need to know about? Am I money ahead to just buy rebuilt
calipers?

My son's 1988 5KS needs one or both front caliper rebuilt. Same questions:
Are there any special tricks/tools I need to know about? Am I money ahead to
just buy rebuilt calipers?

BTW, we've already replaced the rotors and pads on both cars. That's when
the calipers started giving problems.

Many thanks for any help here.

	Later.
