Mobil 1 oil filter, stock oil filter...

Hi!

Mobil 1 seems to have finally arrived in South Africa.
Well, at least it is now advertised on TV. Mobil pulled
out of this country years ago and their stations became
Engen.

Anyway, here are the questions followed by the story:

Do Mobil 1 oil filters out perform stock
    VW/Audi oil filters?

Does the Mobil 1 have the same anti-drainback
valve as the VW/Audi filter? (I assume it
    does 'cos it is "hi-tech" :) )

The story:

My car (1990 200t) had lots of lifter clatter ever
since I had the oil leaks fixed last year and
switched to Duckhams synth oil. It also had bad
oil pressure problems (<1 bar at idle, 3 bar at
high speed). I changed oil 1.5 months ago to
Castrol semi-synth and put in a new oil filter.
Lifter clatter was gone, idle pressure was rock
steady 1.8 bar and high speed pressures were
where they were supposed to be. Now, recently
after running hard the pressure will go down to
<1.5 bar. The only reason I can think of that
caused the original low pressure problems was
the cleaning effect of the Duckhams oil that
caused a huge clog of the oil filter. Perhaps
the slow return of the problem with the new
oil is the same thing happening. Since folks
here had praised Mobil 1 oil for quieting
lifters and giving good oil performance I have
started to think I might try the stuff, but
want to know more about the oil filter Mobil
sell as it might be an improvement on the
stock unit. I am thinking of using 15W50.
Any experiences from listers on using this
stuff in an environment with temps ranging
from 5 celcius to 40 celcius?

Sorry for putting out another e-mail regarding
oils and filters. I know I;ll probably get some
"but I've mentioned this before" e-mails. :)

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
G.

PS: 200 gets new gas shocks tomorrow (perhaps)
right out the stock rooms of Gabriel and
perhaps 2 new front Continental CV90 tyres
next week ... will probably make a big
difference to the fact that when I hit the
brakes the driver's side of the car is the
one that seems to dive so much more. Y'all
just couldn't believe the state of the shocks,
tyres and brakes on this thing! :) New CV
joints last week. New K26 and 2-pc manifold is
    still a dream, but only $325! :)
