Andrew:
I am not sure what type Audi you have but...here it goes:
1.- Check heater control valve with vacuum pump (need steady reading
with valve actuated) including the small hose coupling hard 3mm. tube to
valve.
2.- If locking diffs. remove two lines from rear of intake manifold.
With diff locking diff switch in OFF.
check vacuum both lines. both should hold. One should drop vaccuum when
diff switch moved to 1 pos.
3.- Remove black? plastic cover between firewall and winshield ( has
AUDI name on it). On right side of fan housing there is a small "tee" :
One side goes to Heater Valve
Other side to Recirculating door actuator. Check both sides for vaccuum
hold.
IN passenger side
Remove glove box, right side of console (passenger side) right cover of
footweel (computer ECU cover) and reveal AC programmer (small black
box)Remove one holding nut ( Electrical connector can remain connected.
Carefully remove center secrew of vaccuum connector with 5 colored tubes
and separate connector by prying around the full circumference.
On female side of connector test all colored wires:
Green and Yellow will actuate the CENTER VENTS ACUTATOR - should hold
vaccum.
Blue ( I believe ) will actuate the DEFROST AND FOOT SERVO ) should hold
vaccum
Red actuates the "tee" for Heater Valve and Air recirculation. Should
hold vaccuum
Back to engine compartment.
Find FAT vaccuum hose running from same connector for the vaccuum lines
for diff. locks and follow to a one way check valve (yellow/black) fat
side goes to vaccumm canister ( I've never checked - no experience)
Small side feeds colored connector previously discussed. Disconnect
small hose at check valv and plug with golf "tee". From passenger
compartment check vaccum to black female line with "tee" in place
vaccuum should hold.
Please keep in mind I am anticipating you have an 87 or 88 CSTQ.
