I have been changing the oil in my V8 for the last five years, and have never
removed the belly pan to get at the filter. There is a small sliding door in
the pan right under the plug and filter which provides ample access. It is
however a good idea to drop the pan now and then to inspect. Also, leaks will
show up on the pan well before the garage floor.
