Yes there is. It's called a TURBO.
I believe that was the reason FIA made all the F1 teams go N/A.
Picture over 1000 HP out of a 1.5 liter!
Even the 3.5 liter N/A's could not come close to that.
And that was over 10 years ago.
Picture what they could do now with turbo's in F1.
Yes that is an extreme case, but I think you get the picture.

Even without doing anything to the Cobra, if you put a monster TURBO
on a 4-cylinder engine, by the time it spools up and the car actually
gets physically moving, the Cobra will be waiting for you at the next
stop light. That is spelled TORQUE. 1000HP at 9,500 RPM to 10,000 RPM
with 3 in/lbs of torque below 9,000 RPM is not a very good all-round
driving car. (Yes, a nifty FIA all-out racing car, but a down-right
crappy driving car). Hell, you'll find yourself being beaten out by
any ole urabuS station wagon in city driving -- assuming you can even
keep your 1000HPTURBOMONSTERFIABEAST idling at a stop light. (And here
I speak from years of experience driving Audi's SuperWorldClassRallye
HomologationTurboChargedWonderCar [an UrQ], and getting solidly
trounced off of every stop light by every clapped-out Nissan pickup in
the country.)

And I reiterate -- the same amount of $ and effort spent SUPERCHARGING
the cobra's big honkin'murican V-8 will beat the crap out of your
turbocharged little dinky furrin 4/5/6-banger. So I'll pit my 1,500 HP
supercharged V8 replete with low-end torque against your turbocharged
1000HP I4 with no low-end torque, using my money left over to buy the
extra gas the V8 demands . . . and a nice stereo too.

There jes'ain't no subsitute for cubic inches.
