1990 v8 control arms
Hi gang!
Had the v8 at Waterford Hills Raceway today and was hoping to get in on the
track tomorrow. Fixed (I hope) the leaking upper radiator hose -had a 1/4"
vertical split on the integral rubber connector- with some hi-temp rtv
silicone sealer and duct-tape trimmed to fit the zebra clamp I installed).
We'll see how long that lasts!
Anyhow, after checking out my front suspension for a clunk from the left?
front that occurs usually when backing out of a parking spot and turning the
wheel, I must say I havn't really found anything. Bilstein Sports and Eibach
Pro Springs were installed last summer and everything in that dept is still
tight. Should probably replace control arm outer bushings -Inners and outers
replaced 35,000 miles ago. Otherwise new lower control arms (which include
inner bushings and outer ball joints)?
Front end seems to want to wander a bit much and this was never a problem
before (i know the roads in Michigan suck, with all the ruts we have to
contend with). I also do not attribute this to the 235/45 17 SP8000 mounted
on Compomotive MO 17 x 8 wheels, as I've had these know for over a year.
Also, I always thought I had the dealer S4 brake/front suspension upgrade, but
I've heard that was unlikely and that in all probablity I have the '90 200tq
front end upgrade. If this was so, wouldn't I have needed 200 brake rotors
instead of the S4 ones (because the 200 didn't fit)? And also, wouldn't my
front track have been narrowed as a result? S4 rotors have -if I remember
correctly- deeper hats. I understand that the original v8 lower control arms
were just like the 200/5k ones, with smaller ball joints, and that the s4 has
larger ball joints? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
